Smashburger Glasgow

I can't honestly say that when I see a burger on a menu I ever order it. Mainly because they always seem to be a little bit disappointing. You can't really go really wrong or really right with a burger can you? It's just...a burger.

Or so I thought. 

I was recently invited by the lovely people over at Smashburger to try out their new restaurant in Glasgow. I had seen whispers online about how amazing and delicious these burgers were, and had already decided I'd have to give one a try. Despite how 'bleh' I usually feel about them. And I'm so so soooooo glad I went!

Let's talk about the restaurant first. Located on Sauchihall Street in the middle of Glasgow city centre, the interior is super modern and fresh - totally unlike what you'd expect from a traditional burger joint. There is no fast food vibe here, despite the little bit of self service involved. The staff were super friendly and ready to help. We asked for advice on the menu - so many options - and chose some things we never would have considered on our own.

So let's talk about the food. I might have started this blog post by saying how anticlimactic burgers are for me, but Smashburger has totally changed the game. We decided to try a 'Classic Smash' (egg bun, smashburger, American cheese, pickles, tomato, onion, lettuce, ketchup, smash sauce), and the 'Spicy Jalapeno Baja' (chipotle bun, crispy smashchicken, pepper jack cheese, jalapenos, guacamole, onion, tomato, lettuce, chipotle mayo). We also decided on sides of fries, sweet potato fries and fried pickles (oh my God the fried pickles). I decided all that food wasn't enough and ordered myself an amazing strawberry milkshake made with Haagen Dazs ice cream which was so thick at first it wouldn't go up the straw.

The burgers are 'smashed' fresh, and are made to order. The meat was super thin (nothing worse than a burger thats just a big wedge of burger meat) and perfectly cooked. The Classic Smash was my favourite - you can't beat a classic can you? But I was so happy that we tried a chicken burger too. We might have gone the slightly unhealthier route of having it fried, but the grilled option looked amazing too.

Sides wise, I loved that there was a sweet potato fry option. And again, the fried pickles - something I never thought I'd like at all - were incredible! Next time I go, I will be all over one of the delicious looking salads (maybe - I mean there are a lot more burger options to try first). There were also some great veggie options, including 'Spinach & Goat Cheese' and 'Truffle Mushroom Swiss'. The create your own option means that everyone eats happy!

All in all, I absolutely loved my experience at Smashburger. I'll be back, sooner rather than later. I can safely say my attitude towards 'bleh' burgers has been totally reversed...in one restaurant anyway!
