El Greco Hotel Santorini
A trip to Santorini can be super expensive. The main island of Thira is home to some of the most beautiful cliff side suites and apartments (which cost a small fortune). Travelling on a budget can be hard sometimes, especially with trips like these, so I decided to try a package holiday from Thomson. I haven't gone on a package holiday since a few ill fated trips when I was 18, so I was interested to see if there was any improvement!
The El Greco hotel lies just outside the main town of Fira, the perfect location for a trip like mine. I didn't want to be in the town centre (it can get super busy and feel a little cramped). The hotel was just a short ten minute walk along the cliff side to Fira centre, with amazing views of the caldera on the way.
I was surprised by how nice the hotel itself was. Most buildings and trees on the island are whitewashed to deter insects, and the El Greco was no different. Everything felt fresh, light and airy. And so clean!
The complex was huge, with 5 pools, a spa and a gym! Although it was a family friendly hotel, they seemed to keep families to one pool, couples to another etc. Our pool was so quiet! It was nice to go to the pool bar for some music and excitement a lunch time, then back to the pool to fall asleep!
The only downside to this hotel for me was the food. I enjoyed having lunch at the pool bar, but was slightly unimpressed withthe prepaid breakfast. It seemed like the same buffet every day, with nothing especially good on offer. I never had dinner at the hotel, but other guests told me it was the same scenario. However, it's hard to let this put me off, since there was so much good food in Fira!
All in all I absolutely loved the time I spent at the El Greco Hotel. The location, aesthetics and staff were all lovely, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Next time I'm in Santorini this is definitely where I'll be staying!
