Some Time on the French Riviera

Some Time on the French Riviera

I hadn't planned on visiting the South of France this year. In fact, it wasn't even on my radar. A few months ago I was all about going back to Italy. I was all about pasta, sightseeing and boozy warm nights. And you know what? I got it all in France.

My friends and I were on a budget. We wanted a few days away for around £350, which was pretty much what the flights to Venice were going to cost. So we got on Skyscanner and searched for the cheapest flights to somewhere sunny and beachy, but that also had a city type vibe with plenty to do. Nice was the perfect choice. I mean it was close enough to Italy that we could actually hop across for a quick trip if we wanted to!

We flew from Edinburgh and stayed at the Ac Hotel by Marriott, a gorgeous hotel if a little out of the way for my liking. I like to be in the middle of things. But when there's a rooftop pool and bar all can be forgiven.

Nice feels more like a town than a city. You can walk/cycle/roller blade along the Promenade des Anglais, people watch in front of the water and shop at the markets in Old Town. There's no rush, no pressure - the vibe is more holiday resort than city break. Let's face it, it's hard to rush anywhere when there are so many things to stop and take photos of. It's one of the prettiest cities I've ever stayed in, and one of the most laid back.
